In response to Radio MMU

In response to the bulletin by Radio MMU entitled "RMMU::The Issue of Record Breaking Events: On-Air Interview with STAD Assis. Director" dated 13th April 2007.

We feel very grateful that Radio MMU is willing to vacate their airtime to make way for an interview with the Assistant Director of Student Affairs and Sports Division (STAD), Mr Omaruddin Bin Ibrahim. However, just like what we have clarified in previous post, our targets are students and event organizers, NOT STAD.

We regret to tell Radio MMU that we're not be able to join the interview session as we think that it is not our purpose of this campaign.

In fact, Radio MMU should invite these record-breaking event organizers and the SRC to the radio programme to discuss about the value those events. After all, Mr. Omar is not the one who came up with these events. He is just helping to ensure the success of student activities. We DO NOT wish to see ANY changes of current regulations in the activity approval process.
What is important to us is that what has inspired this sudden increment of record-breaking events. And we do think that the event organizers and SRC can answer our doubt better.

P/S: Dear Abdulrahman of RadioMMU, we think that you need to TRUELY look into our campaign objectives and the message above properly. We hope that you are inviting Mr.Omar not because of our awareness campaign.

To make things clear, decision of inviting Mr. Omar to the interview session is NOT under our jurisdiction. Hence, we hold no responsibility over the interview session.

The question we want to put forth has never been "Why Mr. Omar approve them in the first place?" but "Why students want to organize such events in the first place?"

Yours truly,
Organizer of Awareness Campaign

Recordz Frenzy,

Thank you for your reply and I completely understand your objective 'NOW'. After your latest post of 'Some Clarifications'.

But please also do note that, not everyone thinks alike, that's the whole reason of this interview. No one is being held responsible here for ANYTHING. This interview is solely for the students. Giving them the chance of asking anything they please to STAD.

Neither was I directing anything to you, and as you've noted, it was a mere 'invitation' if you wanted to join or not.

And NO, I'm not inviting Mr. Omar because of the Awareness Campaign. But I'm calling him because of the countless accusation of how the STF is being used for the so called record breaking events which are claimed to be useless.

Mr. Omar is coming to show to tell everyone how things work at STAD, and how the STFs work too and anything else that needs clarification.

In lieu of your Campaign, I was inviting you in order to propagate the message that you're trying give more clearly to everyone, and also to show that you have 'NOTHING' against the University.

Lastly, about the last part of your post;

The question we want to put forth has never been "Why Mr. Omar approve them in the first place?" but "Why students want to organize such events in the first place?"

As I said before, the way you started wasn't right, as you have admitted it yourself;

At first we used some sharp and direct words here and there, because obviously, it's very attention grabbing (and we are truly sorry if we hurt anyone's feeling. It's not intentional!!!). We are trying to cut down those name-calling words from now on. Apologies!

So due to that, I've to say it really seemed to me that tha was one of the questions you were trying to ask..

Nevertheless, thank you for replying to my invitation. Hope you do tune in to listen too...

Cheers.

well, students pay loads of money every year, about a million i think, for STAD to manage it, and give it back to STUDENTS who want to organize any GOOG things for STUDENTS.
what teh hell with longest kebab? (why KEBAB btw??? why not ketupat??kebab is not a local food, is this just because some i'ntl student want to org. such thing, and stad just approve it?)
im one of the hundreds mmu students who are organizing meaningful events in mmu ,felt stupid about this thing. we only get like 5-6k for our event each year, and this event got 50k? for kebab that will be thrown away?

STOP UNMEANINGFULL RECORDS!!
we need more events in mmu, FINISH UP THAT 1Million STAD, thats not your money, that is students' money. you only work for MMU, you are not getting extra money for that.

my suggestion to students are, when your event got rejected by STAD, that is, MR OMAR, create a petition and get 1000 signatures of mmu students send it back to MR OMAR.

and by the way, fuck stad, fuck mmu, fuck src, but i love mmu students. keep rocking!

padangjarakpadangtekukur , u are moving way WAY behind the bloggers....when u arent care of human rights, arent care of anything that's not related to you, then why do u exist at the 1st place??? if u can survive solely on urself then live ur selfish life!!! the country definitely needs more ppl who can think independently and un-selfishly to achieve MORE in everything....only when we doubt, there'll be improvement. If u just sit there and care nth, then why should we care of u??? We are all uni students, hope of the nation. We need to do a lot more than this u know...pls everyone, be a smart uni student from now onwards!!!!! DOnt be foolish and eventually drag the country backwards!!!

wow. so emo. hahahaha. like i care what u r talking about. talking like that doesn't make u a smart uni student either i think. i stick with my opinion, before making big changes, stick with the small changes first, within our own circle first that is. u can't change the world without thinking of urself first. selfish my ass. this is not selfish, this is a freedom. we get what we deserve before giving out. isn't it? i know i got some point right. hahahaha. i can be giving, but as a guy and a leader, egoistic is much more important. without ego, u can just give ur country to anybody else. we need it dude. trust me. so, who said i'm dragging my country behind? ur same way of thinking is making ur own country behind. think out of the box la for some reason, and u just make me think that u are much more stupid than me. hahaha

I'm OK with this campaign. I understand the objectives etc. What I don't understand is placing posters in places like mirrors in toilet, blocking the view, putting posters in toilet doors etc. It is not appropriate, sad to see a good campaign with strong cause executed in unprofessional manner. Also, are the commiittee of this campaign disclose their identity. I hope this is not some kind of "surat layang" kind of campaign. I really hope the execution part can be improved. Thanks.

i'm a normal uni student too and thinks that sticking posters behind toilets doors has its efectiveness in some kinda way...if not there wont be those smart ad behind those toilets right...i think the committees of this campaign has thought of almost all the ways to create awareness. good job done i think. and another thing, those insinuating "records" placed on foe whiteboards are perfect too...haha...the "coldest" classroom and "flatterst" whiteboard etc are great in insinuating. cheers.

from sum1 who've been awared due to this campaign.

About SRC, SRC has nothing to do with the planning or establishing an event. But we do have council members heading some main projects like CF, CCIP, Awards Nite etc. However on the whole, SRC is about giving support if needed, and raise issues to admin.

FYI, there was no complaints or a case filed with SRC in regards to the record attempts. How can we do anything if no one files a complaint?

This is one problem of everybody. They never file official complaints and assume nothing good will come of it. Try approaching us and see the outcome. For the STF, the statement are in the SRC website under CSSA.

About the assumption of SRC will not do anything, the current SRC did not receive a single complaint, so how can we act upon it? We always act immediately upon receiving complaints - eg. food operators, security issues, ptptn etc.

For the previous years, maybe they did know and did nothing, I wouldn't know because I wasn't there. So ask those ex-SRC.

Put faith into people 1st before condemning them.

Larry,

Sorry this may be a little out of topic.

I believe the blog owner made it clear that they are not trying to blame anyone. They want the university students to think like one, and act like one. So stop defending, and start thinking.

Be a (student) leader we have to be professional, active and think critically. Sit back and wait for complains? well... doesn't sound too convincing to me.

Acting fast towards complaint might just be one of the criteria for SRC. The leaders got to be more passionate.

And now there's 'complain' from this blog owner. A big one. Your "acting fast" was just posting some "ass-covering" response.

I would just like to voice out my thoughts as a students to our leader.

Let's get back to the topic. I liked the way this campaign people are telling us that we should think more critically as university students, long before we organize these meaningless record-breaking attempts. So far I did not see any response to the questions asked by the campaign organizer.

Dear LJ,

This not a proper way to file a complaint. Do you blog about it if you get robbed and hope the police would do something?

How to file a formal complaint:

step 1: write a letter in regards to the complaint matter.

step 2: submit the letter to the designated body.

step 3: wait for the results

Its not about sitting on our laurels, we have also brought up a number of issues to the appropriate bodies.

Imagine what will happen to the university if every student has an issue and never filed a complaint, each will setup a body (like this one) and start putting up posters and banners...wouldn't that make the university look like some village during election season?

Please people, do file formal complaints. FYI, This is not ass-covering. This is highlighting the way things work.

Seriously, i wouldn't mind if any of you want to meet me and wanting to file complaints, i'm always in SRC Room from mondays 10 - 11am and 1 - 2pm.

Why some of us are not favorable of this method of complaint (blogging, banner and poster hanging) is because we are in Malaysia. Imagine you take this as a norm and you are already out there working, what will happen when you do this on government related issues?

For the staff, some of you all are seriously doing a misconduct. What the hell are we students learning professional conduct and ethics (its an FIT subject) for? to whistle blow when the oppurtunity arises? this is totally sad. If you have a problem, file it to your supervisor instead.

salute u man for pasting the poster to promote ur blog ( funny though in a way ). Ok , what this guy did , in a way can be considered as a vandalism ; but this is necessary to promote his blog !!! What u think we could , go and get permission to paste the posters ? Oh yeah , before leaving random comments please read properly what is this guy's mission ... If he officially file a proper comment official will others know about it ? most ppl tend to keep quiet , even if they find things are going as long as it doesnt affect them !

What this guy did was to promote his blog through posters and wrote his opinion in his blog !!!! this way is still acceptable .. and for ppl who thinks what he did is embarrassing think again cos making a lame record is much embarrassing for me :) ....

p.s - SRC cyber are u planning to make longest roti john next academic year ... ? u just need another 24 k and more idiots in src
