They are starving! WHY ARE WE WASTING?!

The cost of making longest Kebab (RM24,000):

- can save a cancer patient's life.

- can pay MMU tuition fees for 2 years.

- can fund a master student to complete 50% of his/her research.

- can feed a starving child for 6 and a half years to live in Malaysia.

- is the daily living cost of 6857 people in under-developed region of the world.

- can prolong the life of 8000 people in famine-stricken countries in Africa for another day!

The best thing i can recommend you to do as a former undergrad student and currently an academic staff is to demand for STAD to release their full yearly financial report for the Student Trust Fund. This will ensure that STAD will be more accountable for how they spend the money there. Right now as it is, nobody knows how much money MMU collects for the fund, how much money is left inside and how the money is spent. All of this spending is left at the discretion of the directors at STAD - not much of a trust fund if you ask me, sounds more like a slush fund.

Woot, I'm glad some of us took action! These idiotic attempts at records are rapidly turning MMU's reputation as a university that likes and condones frivolous, half-assed activities.

I propose that we forward a message containing a link to this blog, and also propose that all bloggers blog about this. We need to create more awareness.

RM24,000
- combine of 218 students' TRUST fund
- can hire a fresh grad with 2k per month
- can fund a child at worldvision for, eh, 40 years?

and being throw away in such "great" fashion. Good luck MMU.

RM24000 is not all the money which is wasted we must add some other prices which is much more each year we have U night, E night, ISS night, … night,…night , and so on.
After adding this entire amount we will find out what a big waste. In other word MMU is kind of club house only for nights… and rubbish events such as longest dodol, longest kick by hype club, kebab and …

Someone took down all the posters. Tho I took pictures before the MMU Police took them down.

I am a lecturer in MMU, I can beg 99% of lecturers will support your actions. Go ahead and make this BIG, stop the NONSENSE and ask the university to stop making MMU look so STUPID and RIDICULOUS.

MMU is wasting so much money and yet they try to save money in so many ridiculous ways, do you know MMU staff got to pay for calls made using their office phone even though MMU is a subsidiary of Telekom?

huh,

24K can renew whole computer lab equpment instead of some old Pentiums 1's.

ko bg fakta pon tak btol la beb..ko check balik list records ko tu..hah..lg satu, dari ko sebok buat flyers, kempen tak berfaedah ni..ape kata ko buat kempen kutip derma untuk org2 susah tu sume..aku rs lagi berfaedah..-from my humble opinion-

Anonymous said...

to me, this shouldnt be such a big issue. I think all of you are just KIASU's

Anonymous said...

Folks, 24K isn't something big for stad. Please go check out how much funds STAD had actually issued to clubs and organization to hold their Trips and Appreciation Dinner. You will definitely shock about that total amount. :P

BAck to the core of the fact, it is all started off by some stupid STAD officer, sorry to point it out -- EN SHAH + EN FAISAL.

i agree, they are wasting a lot of money just to get into the pathetic record book. i think they should use that money to improve the labs and classes with broken chairs, esp e theater. if they dowana do that, do some charity. hmm suddenly i have an idea for MMU, they can try making THE BIGGEST AND MOST CHARITY EVENT! that will earn them a name!

"Folks, 24K isn't something big for stad."

Probably, but it's a pretty huge number to be wasted on massive amount of food that were thrown out in the end.

I think the point here is for the clubs to rethink about their record breaking attempts rather than just doing it for the sake of doing it.

After a while it gets lame and boring. And just plain stupid.

You all seriously do not know how the funding system works in MMU...The STF cannot be used for maintenance or anything else except for student activities.

Anonymous said...

24k isn't something big for STAD. And when STAD is giving away funds for trips and dinners, it doesn't rationalize the meaningless record-breaking activities.

It's not only about the money. It's also about the value of student activities.

hye there, actually im 101% agree with ur opinion..it totally wasted money, time, food and energy..but in my opinion..this thing should been told before the event started..dont u think it might be better...now,everything happen already..we talk so much..we complaint all of it..but nothing we can do aite?we cant get the money back..we can take out all the kebab in ur stomach back aite? so it will be much usefull if u started doing this blog before all these event started..btw..it was a really good idea to tell this..hope no more ridiculus record happen in mmu..i love mmu..i dont want it got femes coz of stupid record..mmu already wellknown..so no need all the record ;)

Owh my, I left an omelette to rot when I left for class this morning. Surely a starving quadripledgic midget in a remote village in Africasia is suffering from my sinful waste. I felt so terrible that I decided to let it all out here in this nice blog of yours.

- that's the rules but not the practice dude. How much you really know about the STF funds' flow?

ask FMD and HOSTEL unit whether they had ever made use of that funds or not...

or if you dare enough, ask EN SHAH how much he has used for himself. lol!

i am not on any side of you or mmu.

but as a student, i really appreaciate those event organize.(though i never participapte) at least all those event benefit students. at least we see 24k spent on event.

my frens in other university got much lesser fund from their uni even they paid the same amount of trust fund.by the way, the appreaciation dinner organized by clubs are mostly raised from their event.

as for this activities, all those are extra co-curricular activities that serve the purpose for students to interact and better themselves. along the way they got to learn communicate and manage. i bet that 24k of chicken is not easy to handle. this is what we should look at. it's the experience that count. it's ur university life.

and saying that MMU taking our STF fund is not entirely correct. although I am not sure whether if they money 100% back to us. but STAD have done their part. all the clubs are organizing something for you. u can participate in it if u dont want to waste ur STF fund. if you dont participate, dont say they take ur money, the activities are there for you.

about the kebab thing, it's true it is a wastage of food. but if all of us play our part and participate, i bet the food wont be throwed away. look at the positive part. the event is for us, and we did not go participate and eat. so it become a waste. look at the positive part, look at the objectives, look at the experience gained by the students.

and for those who said computers with processor pentium 1, if you all dont know, some of the equpments cant support the new version of processor and not compatible. so they will stick to old coms as it will be much expensive to change the equipments. and you all can see, our labs com is not that bad, if u compare to others.

and for the lecturer, you phone bill is your bill. u expect us to pay for you? u got ur own salary!!!

and to say the record is somehow ridiculous. i really agree with that. maybe they can try biggest blood donation, at least it is more meaningful. but all also serve the same purposes, to let the students have extra activities and learn to organize something.

you all are university students, and we are entitled to voice out our opinion. so take a proper way, write a report.complain letter, let everyone sign it and send it. everyone will be reading this blog, and they will see mmu students as crying babies. we are old enough, if want to complain, complain in proper way instead of making it public. it's your university status that reflect ur degree.

Aiyooooo...for the last time the money was sponsored by the middle eastern restaurant laaaa...if u wan to make such a big issue on wastage of money go n screw the restaurant owner la..he did it for publicity...yes all diz record breakin is useless but get ur facts right before u make such a big deal out of all this...

Anonymous said...

not to say about how much of the money is spent, i just want to ask a question, what is the meaning mmu do such record? just to want make known of the MMU name?

in my mind, most of the malaysia record were just wasting money, energy, and time. Is like doing meaningless thing and just want a meaningless title in record book.

don't mmu is so proud of telling that they hv such a great record? Now i was so "PROUD" of MMU have such a good money investment.

C'mon, lets save the planet, save the world, save life.

I applaud all the record attempts that gives all its proceedings to charity. But not to the kebab ones?

to anon: organisers? you wan the CV to look good seriously got a lot more ways to do that.

to mmu-people: dude, breaking record takes sheer determination i'm sure u all have it. but put into consideration the costs as well. how about asking a company to sponsor, then do something that doesn't cost too much, then give all the sponsorship money to help the johor flood victims? more meaningful right?

And btw, organizing charity events are more attractive on yr CV, seriously
